About our project
"The Internet Archive is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded to build an Internet library, with the purpose of offering permanent access for researchers, historians, and scholars to historical collections that exist in digital format." Founded in 1996, the Internet Archive has undertaken to archive the entire World Wide Web as well as user-uploaded texts, audio, moving images, and among other things.1
The aim of the JET project is to redesign the web interface and user experience of the Wayback Machine by creating:
- improved visualization of search results
- a system of user-created metadata through tagging and personal collection building
- a more varied set of search capabilities
- a new homepage that serves as a more effective portal to the Wayback Machine
The JET project is an integral part of the Interface and Interaction Design course taught by Professor Mick McQuaid at the University of Michigan's School of information. The project team, JET, consists of four graduate students at the School of Information. We have evaluated the usability of the current website and we have been redesigning it based on theory and practice in the field of Human-Computer Interaction. The goal of our team is to make the website more user-friendly so that it can serve the public better.
